AI welcomes the "big test" of energy consumption

  1.05 trillion kWh (kW h)!

This is the prediction made by the International Energy Agency (hereinafter referred to as "IEA") in the report "Power 2024" recently, on the highest total power consumption of global data centers in 2026. 1 kWh is 1 kWh, "more than 1 trillion kWh". According to the report’s estimation, this amount of electricity is about the entire annual electricity consumption of Japan.

Computing infrastructure such as data center and intelligent computing center is the data center and computing carrier of artificial intelligence (AI). With the rapid development of AI, especially the generative artificial intelligence (AIGC) and large model technology, the demand for computing power has surged, and the energy consumption of AI has attracted more and more attention. At many international conferences held recently, some technology giants have expressed their concerns about the energy consumption caused by the development of AI.

How to solve the energy consumption problem while improving intellectual efficiency is a "big test" for the AI industry.

The energy consumption of AI in the reasoning stage can not be ignored.

When discussing the energy consumption of AI, it is inevitable to talk about the AI big language model (hereinafter referred to as the "big model").

"Generative artificial intelligence is the focus of current AI technology development." Wang Peng, a senior expert of Tencent Research Institute, said in an interview with the reporter of Zhongqing Daily and Zhongqing.com.. He said that at present, the foundation of generative artificial intelligence technology is a large model marked by the stacking of data and computing power, and its training and application need a lot of computing power support. "Behind computing power is the huge power demand brought by the power consumption of computing infrastructure."

Zhang Yunquan, a member of Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference and a researcher at the Institute of Computing Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, pointed out that the larger the parameters and data scale of a large model, the better its intelligence effect. In the large model, "Scaling Laws" means that when the parameters and data are large enough, the intelligent performance of the large model will jump, that is, "intelligent emergence". "At present, we haven’t seen the upper limit of’ smart emergence’."

"Generally speaking, the larger the parameters, the greater the computational power consumption of the large model, and the more power it consumes." Wang Peng said that because the upper limit has not been reached, artificial intelligence companies represented by OpenAI, driven by "Scaling Laws", continue to increase the parameters and data scale of large models in order to achieve the goal of General Artificial Intelligence (AGI), resulting in a huge increase in computing power demand and power demand in the short term.

"Because GPT-3 has 175 billion parameters and 1024 NVIDIA A100 chips are used for training, it is called’ thousand calories and thousands of ginseng’ in the industry." Tian Feng, president of Shangtang Science and Technology Intelligent Industry Research Institute, said that at present, GPT-4, GPT-5 and other large models have all reached the scale of "Wanka Wancan", and the chips used in training models have also been updated from NVIDIA A100 to NVIDIA H100 and B200. "The surge in parameters will lead to a significant increase in energy consumption".

In addition to model training, the energy consumption of AI in the reasoning stage can not be ignored. "Reasoning is the process that the large model responds to the user’s demand", Zhang Yunquan introduced that the power consumption of the large model responding to the user’s demand at a time is not large, "but with the increase of the user scale, the power consumption will continue to accumulate and increase."

Recently, a news from the United States that "if 100,000 NVIDIA H00 chips are deployed in the same area for model training, the power grid will collapse" has aroused social concern.

In an interview with reporters, many experts said that the reason why AI led to the collapse of the power grid is that the training of large models is a phased work, and the computing power used should be concentrated in a data center. Training large models in a limited time and space will bring a very large power load to the local power grid.

"Sudden huge load disturbance in a stable power grid system will have an impact on the stability and security of the power grid." Zhang Yunquan pointed out that with the further increase of large model parameters and data scale, the energy consumption problem of AI will become more and more prominent, especially for countries and regions with tight power supply. "In the long run, the energy consumption of the AI ? ? reasoning process will become larger and larger; In the short term, the energy consumption of large model training is the largest increase in AI energy consumption. "

In Wang Peng’s view, compared with household electricity consumption, AI’s power consumption is very large, but its proportion in the total social electricity consumption is still very small, "far from reaching the order of magnitude of manufacturing electricity consumption".

Solution: technological innovation and new energy

According to the prediction of the American organization Uptime Institute, by 2025, the proportion of AI-related businesses in the global data center electricity consumption will increase from 2% to 10%; By 2030, the annual power consumption of intelligent computing will account for 5% of the total global power generation.

"Solving the energy consumption problem is an important prerequisite for the development of AI technology." Tian Feng told reporters that although the current energy consumption of AI will not cause a large-scale "power shortage", with the large-scale application of AI, there may be a "power shortage" of AI in the future, and it is necessary to find a suitable solution so that the limited electric energy can accommodate a larger scale of computing power.

Through research and practice, people’s understanding of AI has gradually increased, and a series of solutions have followed. From the demand point of view, optimizing large model architecture, improving chip efficiency and computing power efficiency are considered to be effective ways to reduce AI energy consumption.

Zhang Yunquan said that, first of all, a special chip for AI model training can be designed, and its efficiency is more than 10 times higher than that of GPU (graphics processor, now commonly used in AI computing); Secondly, the parameters of AI model can be optimized. Many small models have only a few billion parameters, but they have achieved the same effect as large models. In addition, by optimizing and compressing the reasoning process, a special reasoning chip can be designed to further reduce the energy consumption in the AI reasoning stage.

"The big model becomes smaller, and the effect of reducing energy consumption is the best at present." Zhang Yunquan takes Phi-3, a self-developed small-size AI model released by Microsoft at the end of April, as an example. It is understood that there are currently three versions of Phi-3 model, among which Phi-3 mini is a language model with 3.8 billion parameters, which can be deployed on mobile phones. According to the experimental and test results, its performance can be comparable to that of GPT-3.5 and other large models.

In terms of energy supply, resorting to diversified new energy supply and relying on the state for macro-control and planning will help solve the energy consumption problem of AI. Guo Tao, an angel investor and a senior artificial intelligence expert, told reporters that at present, new energy sources, including renewable energy such as solar energy, wind energy and hydropower, are gradually becoming the best energy choice for data centers. "If there is not enough renewable energy to meet the growth of AI energy consumption, it may lead to increased dependence on fossil fuels, which will have a negative impact on the environment. In addition, the data center can also optimize energy efficiency through intelligent algorithms and realize the coordinated development of AI and power grid. "

Many artificial intelligence companies have begun to pay attention to new energy sources. In 2021, Sam altman, CEO of OpenAI, invested $375 million in Helion Energy, a nuclear fusion startup; In March 2024, Amazon Cloud Services (AWS) acquired a data center park in Pennsylvania, USA. It is understood that the park obtains electricity from neighboring nuclear power plants.

"Solving the problem of AI energy consumption involves the coordination and cooperation of multiple systems such as computing power and electricity." Wang Peng pointed out that on the one hand, it is necessary to reduce energy consumption from AI itself, including optimizing algorithms, reducing model parameters, and improving computing performance; On the other hand, the entire energy system should also actively respond to the energy consumption demand of AI.

Integrated consideration of "source, network and storage"

New energy will become a "key" to solve the problem of AI energy consumption, which coincides with the "East Counting and West Computing" project proposed by China.

According to the data of the National Energy Administration, in 2023, China’s renewable energy installed capacity was 305 million kilowatts, accounting for 82.7% of the country’s new power generation installed capacity, accounting for half of the world’s new installed capacity; The national renewable energy power generation is nearly 3 trillion kWh, which is close to 1/3 of the electricity consumption of the whole society. At present, China has built the world’s largest power supply system and clean power generation system, among which Qinghai, Inner Mongolia, Ningxia and other northwest regions are "rich mines" of clean energy.

In 2021, China proposed to implement the project of "calculating from the east to the west" to guide data centers to gather in resource-rich areas in the west, promote local data centers to be low-carbon, green and sustainable, and meet the computing power demand in the east. In February 2022, eight cities including Inner Mongolia, Guizhou and Gansu started to build national computing hub nodes, and 10 national data center clusters were written into the overall "planning" of the project, and the "East Counting and West Computing" project was fully launched.

"In the era of big model, the project of’ East Counting and West Computing’ will play an important macro-control role in the national power demand and computing power demand." Zhang Yunquan predicted that in the future, more and more large-scale computing centers or intelligent computing centers will be located in the western region of China, and "training from the east to the west" (that is, the AI model in the eastern region will be trained in the western region-reporter’s note) will become a typical scenario for the coordinated development of AI and new energy. However, he stressed that energy storage is a problem that needs to be solved to promote new energy to better empower the development of AI.

"The construction of large-scale energy storage determines whether new energy can better meet the demand for computing power." Tian Feng also agreed with Zhang Yunquan. Tian Feng pointed out that new energy sources, including photoelectricity and wind power, have the characteristics of intermittent power generation, so it is necessary to rely on energy storage system to store the generated electricity in time, so as to ensure the balance between supply and demand of the power grid.

According to the latest data from the National Energy Administration, by the end of the first quarter of 2024, the cumulative installed capacity of new energy storage projects that have been completed and put into operation in China has reached 35.3 million kilowatts, an increase of more than 210% year-on-year, of which over 50% are energy storage power stations with a capacity of over 100,000 kilowatts, showing a centralized and large-scale development trend.

In the construction of energy storage, Wang Peng emphasized the distributed energy storage capacity of new energy vehicles. "With the continuous improvement of battery charging and discharging times and service life, hundreds of millions of trams use the peak-valley electricity price difference to store energy and return it to the power supply network in reverse, which can basically realize zero-cost car use and even profit, and also solve the peak shaving problem of the power grid."

In addition, Wang Peng also thinks that it is necessary to rethink the distributed linkage and micro-layout coordination of "data network" and "power network". He pointed out that in order to meet the rapidly growing demand for artificial intelligence reasoning computing power in the short term, in addition to laying out large computing centers in areas rich in renewable energy in the west, it is necessary to realize "east counting and west computing"; It is also necessary to consider actively deploying distributed renewable energy sources near the data center and computing center on the east demand side, such as distributed BIPV (Photovoltaic Building Integration) combined with urban and rural buildings and agricultural facilities, and integration of light storage and flexibility. "Moreover, it is necessary to consider the integration of’ source network and storage’, and realize the local peak-valley balance through the microgrid as much as possible to reduce the abandonment of wind and light."

"This requires the cooperation of electricity price policy, infrastructure construction, policy support and user behavior." In Wang Peng’s view, the high coupling of the whole computing network, transmission network, distributed energy network and vehicle (charging) network may be the key to solve the future AI energy consumption problem in China.

"Considering the general ledger of input and output, AI actually further improves the production efficiency of society and reduces energy consumption." Tian Feng believes that AI, as a new quality productivity, is empowering economic and social development. Today’s AI big model has become an important basic scientific research facility, and the investment in its training will eventually bring dividends of new quality productivity to the whole society.

At present, in the training cost of AI big model, the proportion of energy consumption cost has exceeded half. Tian Feng said that from the perspective of basic scientific research, we should continue to increase investment in AI technology. "Now is the time to catch up, and we should not tie our hands and feet.". Specific to the energy consumption of AI, he suggested that a large model can be trained with certain energy support policies.

Recently, new progress has been made in the 11th bid project of Shanghai Airport tie line. The total mileage of shield tunneling has exceeded 3,000 meters. The super-large diameter pneumatic mud-water balance shield machine "Hongpu" independently designed and developed by CCCC has played an important role in this project.

According to reports, the cutter head of Hongpu is 14.04 meters in diameter, 114 meters in total length and 3,174 tons in total weight. It not only applies advanced technologies such as optical fiber wear detection of cutters and unique ultra-long distance tunneling without changing cutters (high confined water silt stratum can achieve continuous tunneling over 7,000 meters without changing cutters), but also is equipped with intelligent systems such as intelligent monitoring and automatic guidance, creating a new height of similar tunnel construction equipment at home and abroad, and the localization rate reaches.

At the same time, the intelligent remote safety monitoring and management system can record the tunneling data of the shield machine in real time, realize the independent management of the risk boundary, send out the warning in time and provide the solution plan to ensure the whole life cycle management of the shield machine. The automatic guiding system is equipped with smart eyes for the shield machine, which can more accurately judge the heading direction and working posture of the shield machine, and control the heading accuracy of the shield machine within ±2mm, which not only ensures the heading construction quality, but also greatly improves the intelligent level of the heading operation. Up to now, the "Hongpu" has excavated more than 3,000 meters of tunnels, creating a national record of 650 meters per month for super-large diameter shield machines and a new world record of 16 rings and 32 meters per day.

"In the deep underground of the city, there is no need for engineers to make manual decisions and operations. Shield machines weighing thousands of tons and more than 100 meters can automatically dig tunnels such as subways, highways and high-speed railways through artificial intelligence." This is the future development trend of shield machines and the biggest dream of shield machines. In order to realize this dream, the shield machine must have the necessary core technology to realize autonomous "cruise" tunneling and intelligent segment assembly under unmanned driving. By then, technicians and operators can watch the shield machine realize autonomous tunneling under the control of artificial intelligence through the monitoring screen only outside the tunnel.

"The core technology of unmanned tunneling of shield machine in China Communications Day has become increasingly mature. In the future, the existing technology will be further optimized and integrated, and the super-large diameter shield machine that realizes independent tunneling and independent assembly will be developed and accelerated into the new era of unmanned tunneling of shield machine." Zhongjiaotian and the relevant person in charge introduced it. (Reporter Wang Lianxiang)

It is a pity that the United States has painstakingly "stuck its neck" in China.

Reference News Network reported on February 2 (Text/Shu Meng)

In order to curb the export of cutting-edge technology to China, the United States has taken great pains. Following the introduction of semiconductor control measures against China in October last year, the United States has been pressing its allies, especially Japan and the Netherlands, to follow suit. According to the Nihon Keizai Shimbun, in mid-January, the United States "invited" Dutch and Japanese leaders to the White House, hoping to make progress through direct negotiations. At the end of January, the United States finally reached an agreement in principle with the Netherlands and Japan on restricting the export of some advanced chip manufacturing equipment to China.

Although a preliminary agreement has been reached on the surface, the three countries have not disclosed the specific details of the agreement so far. Political and business people in the Netherlands and Japan are full of doubts and uneasiness.

For the Netherlands, this agreement means a huge loss. As the world’s leading manufacturer in mask aligner, ASML Holding Company of the Netherlands is of great significance to Intel and TSMC, and its business in China accounts for nearly one-seventh of its transaction volume in mask aligner.

According to the German newspaper frankfurter allgemeine zeitung, after all parties basically reached an agreement to continue to restrict the export of chip machines, ASML Holding Company had to prepare for long-term losses. ASML said that if we follow the US government regulations and don’t sell advanced chip equipment to China, it will affect the company’s revenue by about 5%.

Its CEO, Peter Wen Ning, even appealed to the Dutch government to be "wise". According to the Financial Times, Wen Ning called on the Dutch government to choose "wise" export control measures to China and not to have a "major impact" on key global industries.

Bloomberg News previously quoted Wenningke as saying that in the measures announced by the United States in October last year, personnel restrictions "brought various problems to individuals and enterprises", and "this has never been anything to cheer about".

In addition, Wen Ning also expressed doubts about the intention of the United States to block the development of China’s cutting-edge technology by controlling exports. In an interview with Bloomberg News on January 25th, Wen Ning said that semiconductor enterprises in China will develop their own machines if they can’t get them. This move by the United States will only encourage Beijing to successfully develop its own technology on advanced chip manufacturing machines.

Japan also has its own scruples, and it can’t give a clear answer immediately whether it will fully follow the US control policy.

"Nihon Keizai Shimbun" analyzed in an article that, first of all, at the legal level, this is a thorny issue. Japan’s export management is based on foreign exchange law. Japan is controlling the export of consumer products that can be used for weapons and military purposes. To export designated goods and technologies, it is necessary to obtain the permission of the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry. When adding target products, the government and provincial orders should be revised. If the existing law does not support the new restrictions, we should also consider amending the law, which will take at least a few months.

Secondly, Japanese political circles are also worried that once new restrictions are introduced, China may take countermeasures against Japan. Yasutoshi Nishimura, Japanese Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, said recently that the government is also considering the export control of other countries and making appropriate responses. He declined to comment on the specific talks with the United States. German newspaper frankfurter allgemeine zeitung said that this statement can also be interpreted as: all the details of export control have not been finalized, and Japan will not adopt American regulations one by one.

This attitude is also reflected in the attitude of business people.

According to the Nihon Keizai Shimbun, when talking about Canon equipment that may be involved in US export control to China, the vice president of Canon of Japan said that he would "pay attention to the further development of the situation".

As the article of Bloomberg News said, when the global economic situation is not optimistic, this move by the United States will damage a vital market and adversely affect the income of the world’s largest industrial enterprise. The United States’ efforts to lead the world to protectionism are harmful to others and not beneficial to itself, and blocking China’s plan on the chip issue will only be counterproductive.

In the first quarter, the transaction volume exceeded 100 billion, and China’s innovative drugs were red, absurd and reasonable.

"This will be the most comprehensive and powerful document ever supported by the state for the development of innovative drugs."

In March of this year, a document entitled "Implementation Plan for Supporting the Development of Innovative Drugs in the Whole Chain (Draft for Comment)" was circulated on the Internet, which caused extensive discussion in the industry.

Although it has not been officially confirmed, some insiders have revealed to Jianwen Consulting that it is very likely that the document will land. A number of local policies released in April are the prelude to the document’s landing.

Since the beginning of this year, the innovative medicine industry in China has been surging. Before multinational pharmaceutical companies dropped one blockbuster after another, AstraZeneca, Novartis and Johnson & Johnson successively acquired domestic Biotech companies for billions of dollars, opening a new landing channel for trapped investors; Later, the government has continuously introduced new policies, and comprehensively discussed issues from innovative drug pricing to promoting high-quality development of the industry.

BD (business development) transactions are still hot. When the domestic IPO channel gradually narrows and the capital flow in the primary market gradually dries up, innovative pharmaceutical companies have to turn overseas to seek a way out.

The government is also aware of the dilemma faced by enterprises and tries to untie innovative drugs from the policy level. For example, in the document issued by the Beijing Municipal Medical Insurance Bureau on April 17, it was proposed that "the medical treatment projects involved in talking about drugs and innovative medical devices are not limited by the total budget indicators of medical institutions", so that innovative drugs can get rid of the restrictions of medical insurance policies.

China’s innovative medicine industry is facing unprecedented new changes and opportunities. How does Biotech grasp the new course in the era of going to sea?

Foreign pharmaceutical companies snapped up China Biotech.

2023 is called "the first year of China’s innovative drugs going to sea".

After experiencing the haze that pharmaceutical companies frequently went to sea in 2022, the innovative drug pipeline in China finally reached the harvest season: according to the statistics of the Medical Rubik’s Cube, there were nearly 70 innovative drug License-out transactions in China in 2023, with the number increasing by 32% compared with 2022; The total transaction amount exceeded $46.5 billion, an increase of 69% compared with 2022.

Among them, Bailey Tianheng authorized the development and commercialization rights of HER3/EGFR dual-antibody ADC product BL-B01D1 to BMS, setting the highest transaction record in the industry before: 8.4 billion US dollars; Chengyi Bio cooperated with AstraZeneca on the authorization of small molecule GLP-1 receptor agonist (GLP-1RA)ECC5004, with a total transaction amount exceeding 2 billion US dollars; In addition, WuXi Bio has cooperated with GSK, Hengrui Pharma and Merck, Henry Medicine and Novo Nordisk for more than ten times, with the total transaction amount exceeding US$ 1 billion.

In the first quarter of 2024, BD transactions continued to be hot. According to incomplete statistics, a total of 24 License-out transactions were reached, of which 10 transactions have been disclosed with a total amount of nearly $15 billion.

Compared with going out to sea independently, License-out "going out by boat" has become the "main channel" for most local innovative pharmaceutical companies to enter the global market.

"License-out can be said to be the best choice for biotech." Jing Wong (pseudonym), a senior practitioner in the medical field, said. Since Genentech, the first biotech company in the world, was born in 1976, countless biotech companies have emerged in the industry, and few of them can develop independently for a long time.

Many biotech companies had the dream of becoming biopharma at the beginning of their establishment, but the R&D ability needed in the early stage of the pharmaceutical industry chain can not be equated with the clinical ability and production and sales ability needed in the middle and late stage, and most biotech companies do not have the latter.

Jing Wong pointed out that for biotech, the final destination is to sell the project and sell the company. "It would be great if the company can sell billions of dollars."

China’s innovative medicine industry is moving from pipeline external authorization to company merger and acquisition.

From the end of 2023 to the beginning of 2024, there were three innovative pharmaceutical mergers and acquisitions in China in just half a month: AstraZeneca announced the acquisition of Genxi Bio on December 26, 2023, Novartis announced the acquisition of Sinopharm on January 5, 2024, and Johnson & Johnson announced the cash acquisition of Ambo Bio on January 8.

After the spring, on March 25th, NuvationBio, an American biopharmaceutical company, announced the acquisition of Baoyuan Medicine by all-stock trading. On April 3rd, Genmab, a Danish biotechnology company, announced the acquisition of Pfeiffer Bio.

Among them, Genxi Bio, Pufang Bio, Anbo Bio and Sinopharm, which disclosed the transaction amount, sold high prices of $1.2 billion, $1.8 billion, $2 billion and $3.3 billion respectively.

It is worth noting that the acquirers of these remarkable large-scale mergers and acquisitions are all foreign pharmaceutical companies, and the BD transactions that have been in full swing since 2023 have caused some practitioners to worry about the loss of high-quality assets of domestic innovative drugs.

The one-sided situation makes BD and M&A from overseas almost the only way out for innovative pharmaceutical companies in China, and we should start with the current development stage and market environment of innovative pharmaceutical industry in China.

On July 22, 2015, National Medical Products Administration issued an announcement on the verification of clinical trial data (No.117, 2015), and organized the self-inspection and verification of clinical trial data for drugs that have been declared for production or import.

In his speech, the leaders of the Food and Drug Administration pointed out that the problems in drug clinical trials are serious, the problems of non-standardization and incompleteness are very common, and the problems of unreliability, truthfulness and fraud do exist, which have seriously affected the normal progress of drug approval.

Starting from the "July 22" incident, the state began to reform the new drug approval system and introduced a series of favorable policies, which led to a clearer path for the development of innovative drug industry in China.

On the other hand, a group of Chinese who went abroad to study and engage in medical work in 1980s and 1990s have accumulated rich industry experience during this period. After 2010, they returned to China to start businesses or join domestic pharmaceutical companies, becoming the backbone of the domestic innovative pharmaceutical industry.

For example, Baekje Shenzhou, which created Zebutini, was founded by Wang Xiaodong, the first academician of the American Academy of Sciences in China; Yu Dechao, founder of Cinda Bio, has worked for many American biopharmaceutical companies. Chen Bo, founder of Junshi Bio, once worked in Lilly and other large pharmaceutical companies.

By April 2018, Chapter 18A of the new listing rules of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, "Allow biotech companies with no income and no profit to submit listing applications", has aroused a thousand waves among domestic biotech companies, opening a hole for unprofitable enterprises; Science and technology innovation board followed closely, allowing qualified unprofitable enterprises to apply for listing in science and technology innovation board after its establishment was announced in November 2018.

Non-profit enterprises can go public, which has a clearer exit path for capital, completely opens up the closed loop of investment in biomedicine and pushes the investment in innovative drugs to the peak in 2021. With the strong support of the capital market, the development of innovative drugs has entered the fast lane.

According to the data of Medicine Rubik’s Cube, the amount of primary market financing in innovative drugs in China jumped from 14.6 billion yuan in 2017 to 30.6 billion yuan in 2018 and 34.4 billion yuan in 2019, and then to 86.9 billion yuan in 2020 and 87.7 billion yuan in 2021. In the same period, the amount of secondary market financing was 1.9 billion yuan, 21.5 billion yuan, 23.5 billion yuan, 88.8 billion yuan and 70 billion yuan respectively.

In the past few years, Cinda Bio, Junshi Bio and Baekje Shenzhou have been listed one after another. At this time, no one in innovative pharmaceutical companies wants to License-out. As Wang Jing said, becoming biopharma is the dream of almost every biotech company. The short-term prosperity of the capital market has given innovative pharmaceutical companies the courage to pursue their dreams, build factories, expand production capacity, and recruit sales teams. The commercialization of drugs is not fake.

However, prosperity always has an end. Since the second half of 2021, the secondary market of innovative drugs has been frequently broken, and Cinda Bio has dropped from the highest point of HK$ 107/share to about HK$ 40/share today; Junshi Bio dropped from the highest point of HK$ 220/share to about HK$ 30/share; Baekje Shenzhou’s share price is the strongest, and it can’t escape the fate of breaking the market, from the issue price of HK$ 177 per share to HK$ 130 per share today.

Capital began to flee from the innovative drug market. In 2022, the financing amount in the primary and secondary markets of innovative drugs in China dropped to 43.3 billion yuan and 38.1 billion yuan respectively, and in 2023 it was only 30.9 billion yuan and 21.5 billion yuan respectively.

Pharmaceutical companies have to continue to lay off employees, sell pipelines and cut projects in order to control costs and realize cash quickly to cope with the endless cold winter of the industry.

On November 15, 2022, three pharmaceutical companies, Platinum Pharmaceutical, Cornerstone Pharmaceutical and Hutchison Pharmaceutical, successively announced the sale of factories, the suspension of factories and the contraction of pipelines.

Multinational pharmaceutical companies seized the opportunity and began to enter the market.

Biotech Prostitution: A New Way for Investors to Go ashore

"The popularity of BD is the result of the joint action of the buyer’s market and the seller’s market." Analysis of Li Cong (pseudonym), a pharmaceutical investor.

For a long time, the innovative pharmaceutical industry has a recognized law of "R&D cycle of 10 years, cost of 1 billion US dollars, and success rate of less than 10%". New drug research and development is a long-term battle with unknown success or failure. The funds needed for pharmaceutical companies’ R&D come from the financing of primary and secondary markets and the profits of listed drugs.

In the case of shortage of funds, License-out is obviously a better choice than selling assets. As an authorized party, pharmaceutical companies can continue to obtain more milestone benefits.

For the seller, financing is difficult at present, and it is urgent to obtain funds for the company to continue its life through License-out; For the buyer, pipeline authorization can be obtained at a cheaper price during the downturn of the industry.

Behind the buyers and sellers, there is another role that drives these transnational transactions — — Investors.

Investor Jiang Min once inspected an innovative drug project, but did not participate in the investment. After the company went public, its stock rose all the way, and then fell at the top of the cliff.

The leader of the investment institution asked Jiang Min why he didn’t invest in this project. Jiang Min bluntly said that he was not optimistic about this company and thought that they couldn’t make medicine. "Every investor’s motivation for entering the market is not the same. Some people want to make long-term investments, they have to bear industrial responsibilities, and some people frankly admit that they are entering the market to cut leeks." Jiang Min admits that some investment institutions move fast enough. At the most prosperous stage of the industry, innovative pharmaceutical companies quit in time after earning money in the process of raising their valuations.

The remaining investors are stuck in the gambling game. "There are always a few people who can make money in the capital market." Li Cong said that investors behind innovative pharmaceutical companies are seeking new exit opportunities. However, with the gradual tightening of IPO policies, it is difficult to reproduce the prosperity of Hong Kong stocks 18A and science and technology innovation board a few years ago.

Then, investors can no longer consider the secondary market as the core exit path. "But investment institutions still have to invest and make money, so they can only seek exit opportunities such as mergers and acquisitions and equity transfer in the primary market. For investors, it is better for pharmaceutical companies to get a License-out or a chance to collect mergers and acquisitions than to be trapped inside, but the income will not be high. " License-out and acquisition and merger have become the "landing channel" pursued by innovative pharmaceutical companies.

Take Chengyi Bio as an example. According to public information, Chengyi Bio has obtained three rounds of financing in 2018, 2020 and 2023, with financing amounts of 100 million yuan, over 100 million yuan and 180 million yuan respectively.

In 2023, Chengyi Bio granted AstraZeneca the right to develop and commercialize the small molecule GLP-1 receptor agonist (GLP-1RA)ECC5004 for potential treatment including obesity, type 2 diabetes and other complications. Through this authorized cooperation, Chengyi Bio will receive a down payment of US$ 185 million, future milestone payment of US$ 1.825 billion for clinical, registration and commercialization, and graded royalties for net sales.

The down payment from AstraZeneca alone has exceeded the sum of all financing amounts since Chengyi Bio was established. Compared with the primary market that is currently in the cold winter, License-out obviously returns blood faster.

In terms of acquisition, Pufang Bio, a Biotech company, was acquired by Danish pharmaceutical company Genmab in an all-cash transaction of $1.8 billion at the beginning of April this year. Before that, it had completed at least four rounds of financing, with investors including Xianfeng Qiyun, Gaorong Capital, Changan Capital, Sequoia China, Yuanhe Holdings, Lilly Asia Fund and other institutions.

Among them, the latest financing occurred in February this year, two months before it was acquired by Genmab. According to industry sources, the valuation of Pufang Bio after this round of financing is about 300 million US dollars. For investors in the last round of financing, the return came so quickly.

Unlike the highly volatile secondary market, the above exit path occurs in the primary market. Li Cong believes that "the primary market is a market that emphasizes value more. Before trading, the buyer will repeatedly consider whether this asset is really valuable, beneficial to the coordinated development of its own business and whether it can create cash flow. On this premise, the valuation of Biotech will be very close to reasonable."

Two ends of the balance: medical insurance cost control and the development of innovative drugs

In the innovative drug market, China pharmaceutical companies have changed their roles from License-in to License-out, which is behind the accelerated transformation and upgrading of China pharmaceutical industry. From the perspective of commercialization, it is also the only way for domestic innovative pharmaceutical companies to go to sea.

According to the data quoted by BCG from EvaluatePharma, the global innovative drug market is about 830 billion US dollars in 2021, of which the US market accounts for 55%, while China’s innovative drug market only accounts for 3% of the global market.

According to BCG data, in 2021, the sales of innovative drugs in the United States accounted for 79% of all drug sales, while the sales of innovative drugs in China only accounted for 11% of the national drug sales. Obviously, the market of innovative drugs in overseas developed countries is broader.

Comparing the medical security systems of China and the United States, the commercial medical insurance in the United States accounts for 40.14% of the total health insurance expenses. According to the Circular on Further Enriching the Supply of Life Insurance Products issued by China Banking and Insurance Regulatory Commission in 2023, the payment of commercial health insurance in 2022 only accounts for 5.3% of the total national health expenditure.

At present, China’s medical insurance is still dominated by social medical insurance, and the medical insurance fund needs to cover the medical and drug needs of about 1.334 billion people, so the payment for innovative drugs is still limited. In the domestic market, innovative pharmaceutical companies are bound to face the pressure of centralized procurement and medical insurance negotiations, resulting in the pricing space of innovative drugs being compressed.

Judging from the local innovative drugs listed overseas in the past, the pricing of zebutinib, Cedactylosin, Benvimod, Trepelizumab and furosemide in the United States can be several times to dozens of times higher than that in China. Choosing innovative drugs that go out to sea has obviously achieved a higher profit return on single products.

In the domestic market, innovative pharmaceutical companies are bound to face the game of medical insurance negotiation.

Zhou yun (a pseudonym), an industry insider with rich experience in medical insurance, told Jianwen Consulting that in recent years, the price reduction of drugs involved in national medical insurance negotiations is usually more than 60% or even higher. In order to master more chips in the negotiation, pharmaceutical companies often raise the price of drugs, leaving room for an average price reduction of 60%. "Even if there are reviews and consultations before the negotiation, it is difficult for the medical insurance bureau to determine the reasonable price of drugs through cost, and the calculation result is not accurate."

On February 5 this year, the National Medical Insurance Bureau issued the Notice on Establishing the Initial Price Formation Mechanism of Newly Listed Chemicals to Encourage High-quality Innovation (Draft for Comment) to clarify the pricing of innovative drugs.

At the same time, in the face of industry changes in the field of innovative drugs, the state has continuously introduced relevant policies this year to promote the development of the industry.

In March of this year, a document entitled "Implementation Plan for Supporting the Development of Innovative Drugs in the Whole Chain (Draft for Comment)" was circulated on the Internet, which caused extensive discussion in the industry. The document lays out the main tasks, including accelerating the research and development of innovative drugs and the transformation of results, optimizing the review and approval mechanism of innovative drugs, accelerating the deployment and use of innovative drugs, improving the multi-payment ability of innovative drugs, and enriching the investment and financing support channels of innovative drugs.

"This will be the most comprehensive and powerful document ever supported by the state for the development of innovative drugs." Zhou yun introduced that, according to his understanding, the "Implementation Plan for Supporting the Development of Innovative Drugs in the Whole Chain (Draft for Comment)" is very likely to be implemented, and a number of local policies released in April are the prelude to the implementation of this document.

On April 1st, 7th and 9th, Zhuhai, Guangzhou and Beijing successively issued relevant documents on several measures to promote the high-quality development of innovative medicine. On the 17th, Beijing Medical Insurance Bureau issued a document again, proposing 32 measures to promote the development of innovative medicine from eight aspects, including research and development of innovative medical equipment, clinical trials, review and approval, manufacturing, circulation and trade, and clinical application.

In the document issued by Beijing Medical Insurance Bureau on April 17th, there is a very breakthrough clause: the medical treatment projects involved in talking about drugs and innovative medical devices in China are not limited by the total budget index of medical institutions; For medical institutions that need to carry out performance appraisal and quality evaluation of total budget management (BJ-GBI), the influence of national drug discussion and innovative diagnosis and treatment projects on per capita drug expenses, per capita medical expenses and other related indicators should be excluded.

"This is a statement that has never appeared in the previous medical insurance policy." Zhou yun said, "This means that innovative drugs will completely get rid of the various restrictions of the medical insurance policy and be really used in clinic, solving the problem that hospitals used to be afraid to use drugs because of the limitation of reimbursement ratio."

The control of medical insurance fees and the high-quality development of innovative medicine industry are hung at both ends of the scale.

In the European market where the innovative pharmaceutical industry started earlier, the market pricing model similar to that of the United States was initially adopted, which greatly promoted industrial innovation and made Europe become the research and development center of the global biopharmaceutical industry in the mid-20th century. Under the pressure of high drug prices and aging, the medical security system in various European countries began to come under pressure and had to introduce new policies to control prices.

"The medical insurance bureau is in any country ‘ Scold ’ The role. " Zhou yun pointed out, "The main purpose of a series of policies adopted by the China government, such as purchasing with quantity, medical insurance negotiation and payment mode reform, is to solve the sustainability problem of the national medical insurance fund. However, with the deepening of the aging process in China, the contradiction between the finiteness of medical insurance funds and the infinity of people’s health needs will inevitably intensify. "

Under this situation, commercial insurance will become the only solution to make up for the gap between national basic medical insurance and social insurance.

Huang Guangyu’s continuous reduction: Gome’s "advance and retreat"

This September is an eventful autumn for Gome.

On September 20th, according to the disclosure of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, the major shareholders of Gome, Huang Guangyu and Du Fu, reduced their holdings of 88.925 million shares on September 15th, totaling about HK$ 16.8068 million.

This is Huang Guangyu’s second reduction in 24 hours. On September 14th, Huang Guangyu and other major shareholders reduced their holdings by about 2.737 billion shares and cashed in HK$ 531 million.

On September 13th, Zhongguancun (000931.SZ, 6.17 yuan/share, with a total market value of 4.647 billion yuan), a A-share company, announced that some shares of the company held by Gome were frozen by the court and waiting for freezing. It is reported that Gome holds 55.5 million outstanding shares of the company, with a shareholding ratio of 7.37%.

The national business daily reporter asked Gome for verification on the 15th of this reduction. As of press time, Gome did not respond.

From the perspective of business operation, Gome has announced a "strategic dormant" since mid-August, focusing on offline business, and its offline business is indeed operating normally. On September 16th, the Xibahe Pavilion of Gome, a new store under Gome Line, began trial operation.

At the meeting in August, VP He Jian, the operating system of Gome’s retail TO C business group, also revealed the timetable for the promotion of offline business: "In the second half of the year, we will add 150 urban exhibition hall stores with an area of over 10,000 square meters nationwide and renovate 208 stores nationwide, with an estimated operating area of over 1.45 million square meters."

On the one hand, business promotion, on the other hand, major shareholders reduce their holdings. Gome’s operational contrast with the capital market at the business level is inevitably confusing.

In the interview, people in the industry generally believe that Huang Guangyu will not give up Gome. Chen Yuefeng, founder of Lingwu Media, and Liang Zhenpeng, a senior industrial economic observer, believe that the reduction is mostly for cash flow needs; Zhuang Shuai, an expert in the retail e-commerce industry and the founder of Bailian Consulting, told national business daily that Huang Guangyu might retreat behind the scenes by reducing his holdings.

At the business level, Gome took the initiative to shrink the focus line, which is difficult in the industry, but it is worth a try. "JD.COM is also trying to reshape the offline sales scene of home appliances. I think this is a direction." Li Chengdong, founder of Dolphin Club, said.

  Major shareholders reduce their holdings.

"It is definitely not a good signal for major shareholders to reduce their holdings. As for whether it is because you are not optimistic about the company, this is not certain. There are generally two reasons for reducing holdings. Some major shareholders have a tight capital chain and need to cash out to make up the gap. If there is no way, they will reduce their holdings. Some may really think that they have peaked and it is time to run. " Kuang Yuqing, founder of lens research, told every reporter.

In the face of market concerns, Gome is also constantly releasing the signal of normal operation.

On the 13th of this month, in response to the freezing of Gome’s shares, Fang Wei, senior vice president of Gome Retail, said that the company’s production and operation were all normal. In response to the freezing of Gome’s shares, the group has docked with relevant banks and will soon solve it. The company is also actively communicating with investors.

However, Gome has not responded to the reduction of major shareholders. Industry experts generally believe that Huang Guangyu will not give up Gome. "For any entrepreneur, the enterprise is like a child raised by hand, and it will not give up until it is absolutely necessary."

In fact, since the end of last year, Huang Guangyu and his wife Du Fu have reduced their holdings many times:

  On December 22, 2021, Huang Guangyu reduced his holdings of Gome retail by 10 million shares at an average price of HK$ 0.67 per share;

  On January 24, 2022, Huang Guangyu and his wife Du Fu reduced their holdings of Gome by 30 million shares respectively;

On April 1, 2022, Huang Guangyu reduced his holdings of 400 million shares of Gome Retail at an average price of HK$ 0.55 per share, cashing in HK$ 220 million, and his shareholding decreased from 59.87% to 58.68%.

Liang Zhenpeng believes that the main reason for the continuous reduction is that Gome Group is experiencing serious losses and the capital chain is relatively tight. "Huang Guangyu, as the controlling shareholder, can be used to supplement the company’s cash flow by reducing the shares."

He believes that Gome still has debts that are constantly due to be repaid, and the purpose of reducing its shares is to support the development of Gome and let the company survive the severe winter.

Regarding cash flow, Gome’s financial report for the first half of the year has already begun to show signs. In the financial report, Gome emphasized the "throttling" effect of operating data such as cash flow and gross profit margin, hoping to stabilize the military.

For example, the comprehensive gross profit in the first half of the year was 2.4 billion yuan, and the comprehensive gross profit margin was 19.8%, a significant increase of 5.56 percentage points year-on-year; Operating expenses were about 4.84 billion yuan, a decrease of 3.1% compared with the same period last year. The financial cost was about 876 million yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 13.61%.

Liang Zhenpeng believes that the reduction of financial costs in the financial report is good news, but the overall operation is still not ideal, "the estimated pressure is enormous." Kuang Yuqing believes that Gome’s "throttling" cannot solve the problems that Gome is currently facing.

Chen Yuefeng believes that the dilemma faced by Gome is also a microcosm of the industry’s dilemma: "Consumer spending and willingness to consume are further reduced, and the demand for home appliances is weakened under the influence of many factors. In the entire retail format, the pressure on home appliances may be even greater. The dilemma of the industry may exist for a long time, especially in the retail format of home appliances. How to break through is not only a problem for Gome, but also a barrier before the industry. "

"Danger" and "Machine" coexist in the offline road.

In an open letter given by Huang Guangyu in August, he admitted that "time shifts easily, we did not anticipate the difficulties in implementation, and the epidemic was disturbed for a long time, which led to a certain gap between reality and this goal". Gome has also begun to shrink its front line and strategically focus on the retail field of home appliances that it is better at.

On September 16th, Gome’s new store was put into trial operation in Xibahe Store. The new store is positioned as "exhibition experience+home extension+home entertainment+home service", hoping to be a connector between customers, manufacturers and brands, which can provide consumers with diversified services.

This is the first new store in Beijing. Before landing in Beijing and Xibahe Store, Gome Experience Store has successively landed in Fuzhou, Chongqing, Wuhan and Xiamen.

As early as April 2021, Gome Retail mentioned the offline planning of exhibition halls in large cities for the first time, and announced on the same day that it planned to lease three properties of Gome Shangdu, Xiangjiang No.9 and Pengrun Building held by the controlling shareholder for a long time. This action was drained by the super-complex created by Wen Heyou and Sanlitun in the industry, and through the upgrading of offline properties, a new ecosystem of local retail services was further built.

This may be the preliminary idea of Gome’s new stores. At this meeting, He Jian also revealed the timetable of Gome’s offline city exhibition hall stores: "In the second half of the year, we will add 150 city exhibition hall stores with an area of over 10,000 square meters nationwide and renovate 208 stores nationwide, with an estimated operating area of over 1.45 million square meters."

This service has also been targeted by JD.COM. On September 15th, the first JD.COM MALL in Northeast China was officially opened in Shenyang. Prior to this, JD.COM MALL in Xi ‘an, Hefei Superbody and Chongqing Superbody have been opened one after another. On September 30th, JD.COM MALL in Shijiazhuang will also usher in a trial operation.

Like Gome, JD.COM MALL is characterized by its large area and different consumption scenarios to meet the different needs of consumers for shopping, buying and playing.

Li Chengdong believes that this new type of store is worth a try. However, the industry is also worried about the big store model. Kuang Yuqing believes that the cost of the big store model is too heavy. Liang Zhenpeng told reporters that this type of new home appliance store is feasible on the premise of selling high-profit products such as high-end home appliances, because it needs to smooth out expensive store rents.

Every road is in danger and opportunity coexist, and Gome has reached a critical moment. As of press time, Gome’s share price is HK$ 0.165 per share, with a total market value of HK$ 5.894 billion.

Returning college students become "tide farmers": intensive farming and rural revitalization "fertile soil"

(You look good when you smile) Returning college students become "tide farmers": intensive farming and rural revitalization "fertile soil"

Zhongxin. com, Chongqing, August 18th. Title: (You look good when you smile) Returning college students become "tide farmers": intensive farming and rural revitalization "fertile soil"

Author Zhang Yan Ma Jiaxin Huang Luxian

At present, it is the harvest season of sorghum. In the demonstration base of sorghum planting in Huang Zhuang Village, jiangjin district, Chongqing, a large area of sorghum is like a crimson sunset glow, which reflects the smiling faces of farmers in the fields. A group of fashionable young people who are busy in sorghum fields are particularly eye-catching. Among this group of post-90s generation, there are white-collar workers who resigned from cities, and college students who just graduated and joined in the construction of new countryside.

Under the background of "rural revitalization" policy, with the expansion of the base of Jiangxiaobai Sorghum Industrial Park year by year, the industrial park has set up a team of post-90 s college students represented by Hu Yuan and Chen Xie, from professional technical needs to overall management of personnel. This sorghum planting team, which was established nearly four years ago and has zero turnover rate, has become a "new farmer" of the post-90s generation in Huang Zhuang, Jiangjin, about 80 kilometers away from the main city of Chongqing.

What the local villagers didn’t expect was that the joining of this group of "new farmers" actually changed their lives: the whole process of planting sorghum was not only mechanized, but also the yield per mu increased from more than 300 kilograms when the retail investors planted it in the past to more than 600 kilograms on average, so they could get thousands of yuan a month without going to work in other places.

"White-collar" turned into "new farmer" Chaonan has a "manor dream" in his heart.

Wearing a white shirt and tie, wearing a pair of sunglasses, and naturally curly hair with a pigtail, if it weren’t for those dark hands and sorghum in his arms, the reporter suddenly felt that Hu Yuan, a post-90 s boy, was an urban "hipster". In the heat of nearly 40 degrees, Hu Yuan is filming Tik Tok in the sorghum field with his friends to record the harvest of sorghum.

Hu Yuan, who graduated from Southwest University majoring in agriculture, gave up his job in the postal system in the city two years ago and became a planting technician in Jiangxiaobai Sorghum Industrial Park.

"My family has always been very opposed to me going back to the countryside. As an older generation of farmers with traditional ideas, it is hard to get a college student at home, and I definitely don’t want to let my children go back to their hometowns to farm. " Recalling his initial choice, Hu Yuan said that sitting in an office from nine to five was not his favorite working state. Influenced by traditional ideas, fewer and fewer young people are engaged in labor production in rural areas, and the problem of labor shortage is becoming increasingly prominent. He hopes to use the new ideas and technologies he has learned to serve the rural revitalization.

"The modern agriculture we study is completely different from the traditional agriculture that our fathers understood. Driven by the rural revitalization strategy, the vast countryside has great potential." Hu Yuan said that he has been working in Jiangxiaobai Sorghum Industrial Park for three years, and the changes brought by new technologies and new machines that he has been constantly exposed to have made him feel quite fulfilled.

When replacing the local traditional seedling raising and transplanting link with direct seeding, the seeder in the north could not be applied in practice because of the local soil porosity and moisture, so Hu Yuan combined with some manual work to transform the seeder. After the pilot was successful, the new seeder was widely promoted and applied in the local industrial park.

"Adjust the traditional seedling transplanting method to direct seeding, and a modified light seeder can work 20 mu a day, which is equivalent to the traditional seedling transplanting results of 50 laborers." Hu Yuan is full of pride in talking about the changes brought about by agricultural mechanization.

The rural life far away from the hustle and bustle of the city has ignited a "manor dream" in Hu Yuan’s heart. He hopes to become a farmer in the future and build a manor of his own.

From "ivory tower" to "new countryside", the local feelings of female "group pets"

Like Hu Yuan, Chen Xie is also chasing his dreams in this fertile land. "Now many young people are running to the city, and I am going the other way." Chen Xie, who smiled and showed dimples on her face, told reporters that she grew up in the countryside and always liked the greetings between the vast fields and the villagers. Want to have your own garden in the future …

Chen Xie, who graduated from Sichuan Agricultural University, devoted himself to the construction of a new countryside as soon as he came out of the "ivory tower". She is the only female technician in the sorghum industrial park, and she is also a "group pet" in everyone’s eyes. She has been working here for nearly two years. Chen Xie’s lively and lovely smile is particularly infectious. In the village, men, women and children get along well with her.

Chen Xie’s job is mainly to maintain plants in greenhouses and flower beds in industrial parks. Open her mobile phone photo album, and more than 3,000 photos are almost all kinds of plants or handmade flowers. "Every more plant in the garden is like making another friend." In Chen Xie’s view, the newly cultivated endless summer, the sick geranium, and the newly cut Corolla … all these plants have different growth states, and she has to take photos and record them one by one in order to understand their growth habits and characteristics.

Watching the former classmates in the circle of friends bask in the exquisite food and interesting things in the city, Chen Xie admits that although she is a little lost occasionally, she still feels that she prefers the work and life here.

"Our company holds graffiti, street dance, car racing and other cultural activities that young people are interested in every year. This atmosphere, coupled with a job I like, gives me a strong sense of belonging." Chen Xie said that in addition to going deep into the fields, we will also participate in various trainings. Enterprises provide us with opportunities for exchanges and cooperation with experts from well-known universities and agricultural academies, so as to avoid "talking on paper"; And encourage us to learn, innovate, use the cutting-edge knowledge and technology of the industry to change local farmers’ cognition of modern agriculture, and mobilize farmers’ enthusiasm for planting sorghum with practical results.

"China is a big agricultural country, its industry is improving day by day, and agriculture needs to be developed urgently. However, many rural families and college students’ concepts of agriculture and employment still remain in the past, and the rural employment and entrepreneurship platform is insufficient, resulting in a serious brain drain of high-quality agricultural talents. " Tang Pengfei, production president of Chongqing Jiangxiao Liquor Industry Co., Ltd. said that with the development of agricultural modernization, the speed of agricultural mechanization is accelerating, and the sorghum planting mode has also changed to the agricultural industrial complex, and the demand for agricultural professionals has increased dramatically. Combining with the development of enterprises, it is one of the key reasons to attract college students to return home for employment by providing them with diverse employment space and a platform to pursue their dreams.

Tang Pengfei said that in order to build a modern agricultural industrial park, Jiangji winery is supported by Jiang Xiaobai’s whole industrial chain strategy, and the industry promotes the development of primary and tertiary industries, creating more jobs. While attracting college students to return to their hometowns for employment, it also provides many migrant farmers with opportunities to return to their hometowns for employment and promotes a virtuous circle of rural economy.

It is understood that there are more than 100 "Chaonong" like Hu Yuan and Chen Xie, who were born in the 1990s, intensively cultivated in this fertile land in this village. With the help of this group of "new farmers", a number of new homestays, entrepreneurial spaces and other projects have settled down one after another, which has given new vitality and vitality to the villages that were mainly left behind by the elderly and children. They have interpreted the new story of the land with their own new ideas and new technologies, driving farmers to increase their income and get rich together.

Don’t buy the ideal L7/L8 now, ask M8 to beat up friends.

Text | AUTO core ball

Author | Lei Man

Another blockbuster is coming in the world.

It is the boundary M8,

Look, M8 has just exposed a lot of spy photos.

Now the news I’m asking is this,

In November, Guangzhou Auto Show was unveiled for pre-sale.

Officially listed at the end of December, delivery began around the Spring Festival in 25 years.

Keep the same rhythm as when M9 went public last year.

Now that I have stripped the configuration of this car almost,

Look at the design first, this car is M7′ s front face, M9′ s ass,

And the taillights, like the M9, have the word "Xi".

There will be six-seat and five-seat versions in the configuration.

The length of the car is between M7 and M9, about 5 meters.

There is a high probability that there will be rear wheel steering and air suspension.

Besides the power system, this car comes standard with four-wheel drive with a high probability, and there is no predecessor version.

Can use the M9 set of 365kW motor, which is stronger than the ideal L8 set of 330kW motor.

The batteries will all use ternary lithium batteries from Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited.

This will definitely be kinder than the ideal L7 and L8.

L8 low-end accessories are still using Xinwangda’s battery.

The range is still dominated by extended-range models, which are equipped with pure electric versions.

I am entangled in the wisdom R7, the ideal L8 and the question M8, which one to buy.

Be sure to wait for it Look at the price,

Judging from the spy photos, there are some with horns on their heads and some without them.

That is to say, there will be Huawei ADS basic models without lidar.

The price can continue to drop by 30,000-40,000.

Don’t believe me, there is a precedent for this.

The R7 Pro version of Zhijie is 40,000 yuan lower than the Max version.

In the end, I estimate that the final pricing of the M8 will be between 329,800 and 429,800.

To sum up, this car is most suitable for those who think M7 is too ugly and M9 is too expensive.

This compromise is exactly the idea that most of us buy a car.

We must take into account the face value, cost performance and practicality.

Yan value is used to please yourself and provide emotional value.

This domestic new energy has been much stronger than BBA, and its appearance and technological luxury are full.

It is far from the old-fashioned luxury of BBA.

Cost-effective, to be worthy of their own labor income, not distressed by excessive consumption,

More than 300,000 cars have almost achieved automatic driving.

This experience, BBA“56E "which can do it,
